Alaska Airlines Explainer Video

When Alaska Airlines acquired Virgin America, they needed an explainer video that would break down the details and perks of their revamped Mileage Program. Working with the team at animation studio Moving Colour, I established an illustration style and executed on keyframe designs that were used to bring the entire story to life.

Starting with illustration tests, we whittled down details to create a final aesthetic for the video that felt minimal and strong, clearly communicating the structure of the Mileage Plan that left Alaska Airlines thrilled with the finished product. Watch the full video below.

Video Style Frames

Before hopping into full animation, we worked to hone in on the illustration style that would set the tone for the entire explainer video through a series of style frame tests that brought our storyboard sketches to life.

Starting with a more traditional dimensional vector illustration styles that utilized tones of Alaska Airlines full brand color palette and subtle texture, we worked through several rounds to  to simplify visuals to a style that was rooted in mono weight iconography—communicating clearly and directly.

Final Key Frame Designs

Once a style test was approved, we executed on all key frames to provide the animators with everything thay needed to translate our illustrations into After Effects. Paired with a VO track and light background music, the final video felt light and approachable, while remaining clear and contemporary.
